WELCOME to the home of Clinton’s Scouts BSA Boy Troop 1142!

Boys Scouts of America Troop 1142 exists to serve youth by instilling values, preparing them to make ethical choices over their lifetimes, and enabling them to achieve their full potential. We accomplish this by working toward three aims — participating in citizenship; building moral strength and character; and developing of physical, mental, and emotional fitness.

Our values are based upon the Scout Oath and Law.

Troop 1142 has prided itself on being a member of the Clinton community for more than 80 years. In those decades, many things have changed but many have not. We often find ourselves being called by our old number, Troop 142, so if you hear that, we are the same Troop. Our troops’ origins stretch back to the 1940s and the Boy Scouts’ numbering system was different.

We currently have a very active group of young men and many leaders.  The troop takes part in the Christmas Parade, Memorial Day Services, AMVETS Flag Services, Canned Food Drive, and other various community service projects.

For the past few years we have been involved in a massive project at Weldon Springs State Park where we are working on restoring Black Locust Campground to its former glory — home to many Scout, YMCA, youth groups, and other activities back in the late 20th century.

Troop 1142 is very active in the outdoors, camping about once a month year-round. Older Scouts and Scouters teach outdoor hiking, fishing, wilderness skills, first aid, pioneering, orienteering, and many other skills during our events.

The troop is an active ‘Scout’ led program supervised by ‘Scouters’, some of whom were once Scouts in the troop prior to becoming adult leaders. The AmVets of Clinton charter us (AmVets Post #14) as of 2020, — meeting at the American Legion Post 103 in Clinton.

We always entertain new membership.
